Manga Review

5 out of 5 stars!

"No way. He's an otaku just like me!!" - Sakurako

Sakurako's completely obsessed with her favorite video game character and wants to understand his feelings fully. But being a perma shut-in and terrified of social interactions there aren't many options left other than hiring a call boy. Only when Fuji arrives on her doorstep the "freak-out meter" begins to rise!

As Sakurako's believing this was a mistake and maybe she should've put more thought into this choice an accident occurs saving the tense situation. One that has her wanting to melt into the floor until she hears Fuji's response. He's obsessed with the same erotic game and SFW anime as her! The two quickly bond over their love for games, anime, and manga. Even agreeing to be friends but is this for real?! Or is Fuji just putting on his customer-service face to make more money?

This manga was honestly a pleasant surprise! To be fair I was a little hesitant but the other reviews on NetGalley raved about the manga. I also really loved the cover and the premise seemed promising. I'm very happy I didn't pass on this read!

"Those feelings you're seeking, I don't think we can give them to you." - Fuji

Like so many people Sakurako believes just being with another person will unlock the feelings she sees another having with a loved one. When in truth there's a lot more that goes into making those intimate moments sweeter and more passionate. Expressing words without saying them aloud. With the wrong person or one-night-stand it's just an exchange of physical contact and nothing more. But she will have to realize that on her own and I respect Fuji for pointing it out.

I truly enjoyed the dynamic between Fuji and Sakurako. Both had their insecurities and drawbacks but Fuji, being the extrovert of the two, wasn't about to let this friendship slip by! I did appreciate the reality moments and clarification on things. Fuji even showing the real him and asking Sakurako if she still wanted to be his friend. I loved how Fuji didn't judge Sakurako and her shyness or shut-in lifestyle. Even helped to nudge her out of her shell and encourage her to engage with people. Giving her little openings but still being there to have her back.

Now Fuji's a call boy and within the first few pages we understand the extent of what he's used to with his clients. Proudly whipping out tools of his trade with no shame, they are censored out but you get the idea. Everything is PG-13 including the glimpse at the erotic game. I got a little bit of "My Dress-Up Darling" vibes from this read. Language is mild. We do get a brief glimpse into Sakurako's past and potentially why she became a shut-in and a private otaku. Hints of darkness, even with Fuji and how his life has changed him. But overall, this read stays lighthearted and fluffy for now! Translation notes at the end.

Right now, we have a friendship building as the two get closer and slowly lower their walls. I just really love how Fuji's influence is changing Sakurako for the better! I was really upset by the cliffhanger because I just wanted to keep reading! My heart was warm and I was smiling through this read and just wanted to keep cheering Sakurako on! She also made a cute and funny comment about a character at the end. I will definitely be checking out the next volume when it's available!

"I was never allowed to eat junk food because it was unhealthy, but if it tastes this good, health be damned." - Sakurako, my girl! If I could never have French Fries again that'd be it!

The art is great and I loved the bubbly panels that showcased the characters inner feelings! The panel I loved the most was Fuji holding up a gift from Sakurako! His face and the emotion in his eyes was perfect! Just go enjoy this manga and don't forget to give the author some stars!
