Where We Begin: Co-Exist Origins Author Cyra King

Book Review

5 out of 5 stars!

". . .my soulmate's probably in a different universe." - Megan

Megan's been focused on her career and being the best nurse, she possibly can. Meaning relationships have taken a back seat in her life and she hasn't really been interested in anyone. But everything changes when a grumpy but very handsome cop and his partner are rushed into her hospital! No, she must keep things professional and yet there's something about the man. . . Could she just be lonely and that has caused her to be a little bit desperate?

This is a prequel novella for the series "Co-Exist: Rise of the Zombies". I read the novel first before I was introduced to this read. You can read this novella first or you can read the novel whichever order you want to read in it won't spoil anything. I will say if you read the novel first and then this book you will catch onto the comical foreshadowing a lot faster.

"What I really enjoy is seeing my patients smile as they recover." - Megan

We all have goals in life and circumstances that drive us to do what we do. Megan's carrying around grief and wishes to make someone proud of her even if they are not present to see her accomplishments. She's been so focused on her nursing career and things surrounding it that she's forgotten the loneliness of it all. When a coworker mentions soulmates, she doesn't take it seriously.

Like Megan, Mike's carrying around grief and the determination to right the past. Having made promises that he intends to keep his world is soon placed on its head when he sees a nurse with red hair. Everything changes during his hospital stay as he gets closer to Megan while also trying to get answers about his injured partner. The two should not be toeing the line of patient and caregiver but it's hard not to!

I really loved this love story and how it flowed. I wish I had read it sooner instead of waiting so long! We get all the romance, feelings of this is taboo and could possibly backfire, and "does he really like me or is it the pain medicine he's on that's talking?". I enjoyed seeing the chemistry between the two and the dynamic of grump x sunshine. I also laughed out loud with the foreshadowing the author slipped into the read!

There's language in the book but rather mild, some mention of blood and slight violence because the setting is within a hospital. We get to have duo POVs and see how the two really feel about one another. You will get to experience a nightmare in the first person POV, feelings of grief, loss, and guilt are present. The romance in this book is rather clean but there are some innuendos and mention of wants. Only passionate kissing in this read!

I really loved getting to understand the main couple's origin story from the first novel! It was very sweet and romantic with all the ooey-gooey feels! Plus, we get a little bit of a plot and closures along with healing.

Do enjoy the read and don't forget to give the author some stars!
