So I Married an Alien: Mail-Order Alien Grooms Book 1 Author Lyonne Riley
Book Review
4 out of 5 stars!
"That's the trade. Amara gets me, a "husband", and I get a new home on a planet that hasn't yet been consumed by greed --- with all my needs taken care of." - Roth'kar
When the RVS plague wipes out nearly two billion men on planet Earth, trying to find a male partner is very slim. Luckily an alien race established a matchmaking program to help bring more options to Earth! Roth'kar hears of this program and jumps at the opportunity to leave the ship he lives on. The "home" he's used to is filled with poverty, snatching up the scraps he can, and just surviving.
The plan was simple and easy to stick to. Until he meets the very bright and bubbly Amara. . . He soon finds himself lost within the smiles she freely shows and gives out. He goes from pretending to be the best husband Amara knows to wondering if he actually wants to be her husband permanently!? Would she even want him after finding out his truth?
I love reading books from Lyonne! Was excited to dive into this read with fun sci-fi elements and twist to the mail-order bride being a groom instead! Loved the differences addressed by Amara and Roth'kar! How humans are advanced in some ways but in many they're not. Roth'kar getting to meet some of the different creatures we have running around or call pets was hilarious!
His bewilderment with why we still have cars with wheels made me chuckle. My working theory about why we don't have flying cars is because we'd have too many flying cars falling from the sky! People running out of a charge or fuel since they ignored the six plus places to stop the previous day and just went home. Declaring they'd fuel up the next day. . .
"You wanted a permanent companion." - Roth'kar
"Yeah. Someone who will stay with me. . .for a long time." - Amara
Like all cat owners, Amara wished Elvis had lived forever! But unfortunately, his time came. It happens in the past and is a memory but one that still hurts. I could relate to her a lot with that! Amara decides she needs to upgrade to an actual partner. She just didn't expect for her husband to be so alien even if she did sign up for one! She was nervous about his four arms but then started thinking about what all he could do with said arms. I loved how Roth'kar was written and how he felt very different from Amara. Alien vs human customs and how humans freely show emotions on our faces and for Roth'kar he had to keep things neutral.
I loved the chemistry building between the two and how they took it slow. Amara teaching Roth'kar the basics and how to enjoy being on earth. He's a fast learner and wishes to help her out. Even learns to cook and make meals with her! Which I know people love candles and want to burn specific ones for certain books. Me? If there's food mentioned or recipes!? I want those! Going to have to turn to Google to find that Moroccan dish! Amara wanting to diversify Roth'kar's palate.
This read is lighthearted but there are some moments. Roth'kar opens up with little snippets of his life on his ship. Hard life, poverty, and just surviving. Things are not done out of enjoyment or want. Very brief mention of parental deaths from both MCs. Mild language throughout, Amara introduces Roth'kar to parties and some of the things that help take your mind off the day.
We have a slow burn as the two try to understand one another. Getting comfortable with being so close to each other. I respected that they didn't just instantly fall in love and hop into bed together. It gave a more realistic feel! Dual POVs showing what they thought of each other. I laughed a lot with the scene where they finally kiss! You'll just have to read the book to understand! We do get spicy MF action, and his multiple hands come in handy. Roth'kar also has a fancy peen that would totally ruin anyone from going back to basic.
I cannot wait for more from this series! We get an HEA for the main couple and the scenes leading up to the ending made me cry! I'm excited to see what happens next in this world and if Zono will make an appearance again or be an MC in one of the installments!
Enjoy the read with laughs, differences, and Roth'kar deciding he is a cat person! Don't forget to give the author some stars!
