Murder on the Lamplight Express: The Lamplight Murder Mysteries, Book 2 Author Morgan Stang
Audiobook Review
5 out of 5 stars!
Narrator: Shiromi Arserio
First and foremost, I highly recommend reading this series in order! There are some spoilers for book one and we get more insight into this interconnecting world. You can jump into this installment, but you will miss out on some backstories and how characters came to be included in Isabeau's life!

Isabeau Agarwal used to be a lone Huntress. Chasing Eldritch Horrors and other mythological beasts down and completing her orders swiftly and efficiently, "thank you very much". Only now her hunting party has grown to four including herself?! It was only supposed to be Isabeau and Evie carrying out the vague orders given by the nobles', but plans change in the most hilarious and chaotic of ways!
No matter, Isabeau will carry out the task and see it through. Though as the journey on the maiden voyage of The Lamplight Express continues things become more bizarre and deadly. A murder occurs, it seems the Huntress's days of being a detective for human crimes are not yet over! A train full of ten liars and Isabeau's compass is going berserk, seems she will also have to contend with a monster. . .
Again, sorry that I was unable to catch cool quotes! Was just excited to listen to Shiromi's voice as she brought my favorite cast back to life! Morgan Stang's writing is incredible, I will say there is some similar formula to book one but honestly, I could care less!
I love how Isabeau is written and with this read we get more insight into her past, even if it's only small crumbs! I laughed at the moments Isabeau showed her more human side and had to assure herself she was still a great gun handler after one scene. I appreciated the moment Isabeau had to take a step back and assess some of her behavior toward an individual. She really is one of my favorite black cat FMCs!
Isabeau and Evie's merits are put to the test with this installment in more ways than one. Their partnership is questioned, challenged, and in suspense of how deeply they trust one another! Evie even becomes jealous and we get more of her backstory. Even having moments of optimistic and bubbly Evie wilting to show a more serious side. Morgan did a fantastic job planting doubt in your mind and questioning things. One plot twist had me thrown and stating, "N-O"!
This read does contain some mild language. There's violence, bloodshed, and deaths. Love that we have a different origin of mythology for the monster! Body horror and some grossness concerning the beast. This train is full of surprises and creepiness. We do get some light romance and heated moments of FF attraction!
There's a conclusion for the read but more to come! More questions have been presented and curiosity as to where the world building is leading us! I also love how Morgan weaves in tributes to Agatha Christie and another author. But if I say her name then it will give away one of the cool plotlines, I was ecstatic about!
I also appreciate the way Morgan has woven LGBTQ+ into her books but it's organic to her lore. Flowing with the story and not being caught up on all the details surrounding characters or dropping modern slang in. I really respect that.
Enjoy the new chapter of Isabeau and her unlikely team. Holmes and Penny are still my favorites for different reasons! I would also love a novella about Penny before she became a living doll girl. But maybe that's part of her charm and beauty? When things arise, Penny is there to take charge!
Don't forget to give the author some stars!
