Jamie Genius Writes a Novel Author Will Raywood
Book Review
5 out of 5 stars!
"So, what are you gonna write?" - Maddie
"Details later. Not important. I can write anything." - Jamie
Let's be honest, all of us have taken an online IQ test once in our lives. Seeing the results and how high of a number it is and being ecstatic. Until you realize the test isn't a legitimate test and you come back down to earth. Only for Jamie he did not come back down nor question the shady website. Instead, he took his number of 191.66 and ran with it reminding all on a daily basis how much of a genius he is.
And what does a genius do? They immortalize their brilliance! Jamie will write a legendary book that will bring generations to their knees! Does he have a plan? Of course, but it isn't the plan you're thinking. . . This is a very comical read about everything a blossoming author shouldn't do whether aiming for self-publishing or traditional.
"Yeah, I'll write words so beautiful they aren't even in the dictionary. . ." - Jamie
I read the premise and a sample and knew I had to read the entirety of this book after the author had reached out! I haven't laughed out loud by a book in ages! There's so much humour in this read especially with the dramatic mess that is Jamie.
With Jamie's character there is a lot to unpack. If door to door salesmen were still a prominent thing in this day and age, they would be flooding Jamie's front doorstep. He would of course be buying something from everyone. . . Through the pages we get to see all the things one shouldn't do while trying to achieve writing goals.
Sound points and knowledge on writing, royalties, some woes of being an author, changing one's genre, etc. The most helpful people were the ones who surrounded Jamie or popped in for a minute. He promptly ignored them because things were "too" negative. Oh, my poor, sweet, fool who believes he's god's gift to the writing world. . .
Raywood makes fun at AI, and all the toxic things' people do to help them feel better about themselves or to achieve that "great/bestselling" author status. Raywood briefly points out some ethical issues with AI through the sponsorship breaks within the chapters. The author also showed different indie authors talking and some flaws within indie publishing. I love my indie authors but there are cons in both traditional and non. Appreciated the non-bias opinion.
I didn't pick up any language; there may be some mild words but nothing insane. The author's disclaimer had me busting up! This is a lighthearted, fast paced read with great knowledge. Easy to absorb.
My heart goes out to Maddie and Xavier. I really loved Xavier's character and would be plopping down on the coffee barstool with a notebook and pen! There's a conclusion and the author hints at more to come for Jamie. I am honestly down for another comical read with my new favorite trainwreck who is going to be a dumpster fire even at his own funeral! Also, I'm pretty sure Raywood wishes to form a cult. One in which you become a great storyteller and honestly, I may just join.
Enjoy this novella that can be loved by anyone. With great insights, do's and many don'ts. Don't forget to give the author some stars!
Always forget to do this but thank you BookSirens!
