Manga Review
4 out of 5 stars!
Releasing Dec. 16, 2025
"Something about him just made people look twice."
Hagiwara enjoys his life as a librarian and taking long, relaxing drives on weekends. Having everything he believes he needs, until Yabumi walks in. Now he's wanting nothing more than to get closer to the older man and understand him. But he shouldn't pry or try and get closer, right? On one fateful night he's able to start bridging the gap between them only causing his feelings to grow. Does Yabumi possibly feel the same? Does he swing the same way?
"I'll think of a counterargument."
This looked and sounded like a relaxing read. I was interested in another BL manga with the inside of a car being the main scenery for the story. And I mean what's not relaxing about books and going on long car rides with no restrictive timelines and schedules?!
I enjoyed the relationship growing between the two men. How it was a slower build and the two trying to understand each other. Respected the moments of being together but separate at the same time. Reading their own book but having that nearness and fulfillment of the company and not being alone.
Yabumi's older and certain things from his past makes him more cautious. Testing Hagiwara a bit and seeing if his feelings are true or just mistaking love for want of a friend. I can understand that because there are so many different types of love in the world and not all are romantic. Many confusing what they really need for a relationship that isn't going to work.
This is a manga about healing and understanding one's self. Yabumi facing things he had run from or took half measures with. Hagiwara being challenged and having to analyze himself. There are some past moments of homophobic behavior. A past coming out story that did not go well at all. Passing of a family member and grief with confusing emotions and feelings surrounding that because of past actions and estrangement. We do get a short scene of MM action.
For me, just my honest and personal opinion. Some of the dialogue was a little confusing and I had to backtrack. It felt like some things were cut out to ensure the manga didn't exceed a certain number of pages. I had to also try and decipher who was speaking and replying.
We do get an HEA for the couple since this is a one shot. Loved the bright and beautiful artwork and how it showed the relaxing time of just going on a drive. A drive with a destination but no timeline or schedule to follow. Parking to enjoy the moment of peace and reading a book without distractions or constant noises. Now I really want and need to go on a long drive with a good book!
Enjoy the BL manga with some very relaxing moments to balance out the moments of healing from past wounds. Don't forget to give the author some stars!
