"I was drawn to your pure, innocent spark." - Aki
Aki and Minagi became inseparable in high school along with Sarara. But Aki developed a crush on Minagi and chose to hide his feelings. Both of them had dreams and goals they wanted to achieve, and Aki wasn't going to stand in Minagi's way of becoming a "world class medical expert". After an accident things take a turn and the two have a falling out.
Years later Minagi is dragged to Aki's doorstep in need of a place to stay. Neither one's career has taken them that far from the other. They seem to always be close to the other's orbit but slightly out of reach. Until now, when they may be living together?! Will the two be able to work through the past? Does Minagi feel the same way Aki does? Or could this result in the last thing that separates them for good?
"I'm just a curious person." - Minagi
I love a good BL manga with beautiful artwork and the grumpy/sunshine characters! I had been hearing about this read and thought I'd give it a go. I'm glad I did! Aki is very attractive and my type along with Sarara! The artwork was fantastic and conveyed the personalities of the characters perfectly! We even get the little detail of chin stubble to help show just how low a character is because of turns in the story!
Minagi is so cool and optimistic. Even with his determination and understanding of what he needed to do to achieve his goals, plans went awry because life. He didn't let it weigh him down! Simply shrugging it off and quickly coming up with a new plan. A host! Aki simply looked at the facts and hard truths of his reality and went with something that would accommodate him. Becoming a hairdresser like his grandfather and finding out he had a talent for it.
I loved the angst with this read and the moments of comedy sprinkled within the drama. Minagi not wanting to be a simple freeloader and helping Aki out around the apartment. Much to Aki's dismay and growing headache. I enjoyed watching how the two struggled with the weight of the past and how one of them was trying to "fix it" and atone. When in truth neither were truly at fault, but they have to figure that out!
I may have been too focused on the read and the line work, but I didn't pick up any language. There is a passing and understanding of grief and some choices made because of mourning. High school bullies, jealousy, and an accident. No gore. Tense and emotional moments between the two when truths and motivations for things come out. Having heart to hearts with one another as well as their selves.
We have pretty quick MM action as Aki gets to have one night with Minagi, even if the reason behind it isn't romantic. Full consent on both parts! Back to slow burn and then roomies with benefits to finally lovers! It's not a smooth road from point A to B and I loved it! Because relationships are not easy or just a straightforward, sure thing. They're complicated at times and messy, but after communicating and working through things they can be amazing! Also, no BL lightsabers in this read!
"There's nobody quite like him. So, it doesn't matter what career, he's in, does it? He still makes the most of himself." - Sarara
This one shot would not have been complete without that third member who plays a major role in pivotal moments of the read! And of course, Sarara is a little clueless to how important he was. Nevertheless, I loved when he popped into the frames and was that supportive friend who also gave little nudges. Helping the two to have an HEA! Though bringing Minagi to Aki's doorstep was more than a nudge. Sarara should have gift wrapped the man and slapped a bow on top!
Do enjoy this English debut manga and don't forget to give the authors some stars!
