5 out of 5 stars!

"To apply, please answer the following question: What would you kill for?"

A once in a lifetime opportunity has landed in Arcadia, Dia's, lap. How can she not take it?! THE Darkly company has opened an internship program for seven high school kids. Dia only has to apply and then she could possibly be standing on the very grounds as Louisiana Veda! THE creator and designer of the infamous horror games with puzzles, clues, mysteries and so much more.

Dia's completely blown away when she finds out she has been selected! Out of so many applicants she was chosen! After she reaches her destination and meets the other interns' things begin to get weird. They find out they were summoned for a different reason and all of them must work together and figure it out. The group feels like they're in the middle of a Darkly game without a gamer manual. Hidden secrets, restricted areas, clues, and so much more. Dia's also realizing she may not be able to trust any of the other interns. . .

"Do you know what they say about Darklys?" - Poe

"Not really." - Dia

"They own you." - Poe

First off, I just have to say I now want a game in real life that's similar to a Darkly! Loved the game "Clue", but Darkly games seem to dial it up to a thousand! I was hooked from the moment I opened this book all the way to the end! I didn't want to put it down and my theories were flying all over the place of whodunit and the potential conclusion of other mysteries found within the read. The twists were amazing, and I didn't figure out a lot of them ahead of time! This is definitely one of my favorite books of the year!

"Darkly games are not evil. Yet they contain evil. . . . The goal of the player, the pawn, is always to root out the evil, unbury it and bring it into the light, no matter how impossible the task or how chilling it is to see." - Dia

This book has "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" vibes only darker and I love the unique concept of it being focused around a gameboard designer! I absolutely loved Dia and her character! Could relate to her a lot and being an outcast in school because of the older things she enjoyed. Her being a teenager but loving black and white movies and outdated things. Enjoyed her perspective on things and being in her mind as she tried to solve the mysteries that were going on. She had a focus and level head in situations that were tense. Dia is our only POV.

This read is YA psychological thriller. A lot of the other teen, interns have rough home lives and mention it. Dia's own mom is rather flaky and not a great mom. There's a lot of speculation and rumors surrounding the genius woman inventor and founder of Darkly. The more you get into Louisiana's story the darker it is. Trauma, tragedies, deaths, potential supernatural forces at play, language, parental grief, kidnapping, violence, and bloodshed. This is a darker read but a very interesting one and the puzzles were so fun! I loved that the read included pictures of a map, old photos, and newspaper clippings.

We do have some romance with this read but it's not the main focus of the story! Dia's more interested and resolute on solving things. Loved that she doesn't just instantly become love struck and falls for the one making moves on her. We do get a kiss on page but nothing more because YA rating.

I really want to play a Darkly game now! I loved this read so much and just couldn't get enough of it! Will definitely be rereading this book and hoping the author comes out with more reads similar to this one. With all the mysteries and crazy twists! The ending was fantastic, and I was cheering for Dia! Appreciated that you could also use your imagination on what potentially comes next. This read does conclude but there are what ifs.

Do enjoy the book, with a beautiful cover that the more you read the more you notice little details within the cover art. Don't forget to give the author some stars!
