A Malicious Summer Vacation: Monsters of The Divide Book 3 Author T. B. Wiese

Book Review

5 out of 5 stars!

First and foremost! I think for a better reading experience these novellas should be read in order. But it's perfectly fine if they're read out of order. Previous characters do make appearances in this installment!

"The light breeze ruffles my short hair. It feels good. The day is already heating up. I love it. My mom used to joke that she destined me to love the hot weather when she named me Summer." - Summer

Sometimes you just need a break from life and social media! Summer's way overdue for a vacation and because of unpleasant circumstances she takes an emergency one. Renting a house in a small town that she didn't expect to love so much. Not to mention her neighbors are sweet and she's able to enjoy peace and quiet. Even at night when apparently monsters should be trying to claw their way through the windows and doors!

Summer doesn't fully understand the hierarchy that's in play within the town and her very neighborhood. Until she crashes into a mysterious man that she swears has wings. Maybe she's drunk too many spicy Margaritas! Something draws her to this man, but can she trust him? Their paths keep crossing and every time they part Summer wants more.

"So, I decided to come to the human realm to … investigate if for no other reason than it’s something to do—something to dull the never-ending boredom." - Malicious

I love this series so much! The author includes a fun Spicy Margarita recipe at the beginning of the book so you can enjoy the FMC's favorite drink while you read her story!

Social media can be fun and a very helpful tool in regard to getting word out there about things you do or offer. Being able to reach so many people and communicate with those that are so far away. Connections! But unfortunately, there are downsides of social media. Summer's dealing with a grade A stalker and because she's a well-known figure through her platforms it makes his job easier. . .

This stalker being one not approved by dark romance readers! These novellas are kept lighthearted but there's some real-life frustration behind how stalkers are legally handled. We do understand Summer's fear and resentment toward the authorities on this matter. I really loved how things were handled in this book and Malicious' character. One scene involving a crazed fan had me applauding Mal and Summer!

“I think it was a mutual running-into.” I smile back at her. “A fated collision, if you will.” She blinks at me, and I wonder at my own choice of words.

The dynamic between the two was fantastic! Mal is on a mission to figure out what's going on in this particular town. It doesn't seem coincidental that two human mates have been found! That and he's so bored that ANYTHING will be a pleasant distraction. He does not expect to find Summer and potentially his human mate!?

This book does contain language and some violence. Majority of the monsters from The Divide are not sentient and would rather feast on humans than hold a conversation. Our dear FMC accidently cuts herself and there's blood. Our MMC likes to bring presents back to his mate like a cat, it's a little gory. And you will just have to read why the present is significant! Dual POVs.

The read is fast paced but we have a slow burn! I appreciate the fact that Summer is thirty-six! I loved that Mal had to take time trying to understand what feelings were and what they meant. Things finally dawning on him in the middle of a battle. Laughed so much with him. MF action, "A monster obsessed", fun chase scene, "Mine", insta-lust, and more! We also get a no baby HEA or want of future children! I teared up a little with what Mal said to Summer in that regard. I also laughed so much when Mal described how his kind repopulate, it's not what you think.

At this point I feel like Paine should just start handing out gift baskets and little instruction manuals! I cannot wait for the Halloween themed novella! But I'm going to cry because it's the final installment of this series!

Enjoy the fun summer themed holiday novella and don't forget to give the author some stars!
