Malice in Amalfi: Victims on Vacation Book 3 Author Langley Gray

Book Review

5 out of 5 stars!

First and foremost, these novellas are best read in order. They can be read out of order but some spoilers from previous novellas and Leigha and Calvin's story.

"It was a treat to have no agenda, and she decided in that minute to enjoy the moment and not feel rushed." - Leigha

Calvin and Leigha are on another vacation abroad! This time to Amalfi Coast, Italy! Leigha and Calvin decided to take a spur of the moment trip without Merry's famous agenda packet. The two needing a break from their respective careers.

A local recommends a hiking destination for them. But while enjoying the beautiful scenery and sunrise on the Path of the Gods a fellow tourist takes a tragic fall. The two try really, really hard to stay out of the case this time. This one just keeps yanking the two back in begging for the couple to solve another murder mystery on vacation!

A part of reading a series by the same author is seeing the growth in the writing! I definitely enjoyed the first two novellas in the series, but this latest installment just has that umph to it! I found the mystery more intriguing, unpredictable twists, more suspects that could've done it, and humor in the two trying to not get involved.

"We are on vacation and we both need a break. We are here to relax, after all. But honestly, what's more relaxing than solving a mystery?" - Calvin

When I read that Merry Plunkett hadn't set up this trip for the two or had an agenda ready, I was a little concerned. Though Leigha put it into perspective within the same page. I love the idea of having an agenda and ideas on activities or things to do to help enjoy the experience of being somewhere new. But we already live in such a fast-paced world that having such a cram-packed schedule makes it seem like you were never on vacation to begin with. Being able to sleep in, enjoy the morning, and leisurely make your way toward things sounds perfect!

I chuckled a lot while watching the two try and pass on the case to the authorities and wipe their hands clean of it. But Leigha and Calvin are just too good at being in the right place at the right time. Coincidences lining up for them and both having careers that help with investigating mysteries. Neither of them stood a chance!

This is still a lighthearted read! Didn't pick up on any language there is a death, grief, and some threats made. Nothing really triggering at all with this novella.

I liked that I read the novellas in order because of the growth of Leigha and Calvin's relationship! They're still going strong and there were some hints toward them maybe taking the next step! Calvin picking up on the hints from a side character while I think Leigha hasn't fully caught on. Romance but nothing on page.

We get an HEA for this read but there are hints of more to come for this couple! I cannot wait for the next installment!

Enjoy the vacation destination novella with a mystery and an amateur sleuthing couple who can't help but to get involved! Don't forget to give the author some stars!
