Backstage Pass: A Steamy MM BDSM Romance Author Avery Arden

Book Review

5 out of 5 stars!

"And what do you like, if you don't mind my asking?" - Damian

"Power." - Lukas

Damain's in a bit of a slump after coming off the high of a world tour. Being a famous rockstar in 1975 Los Angeles is great, but why can't he write any new music?! Desperate to get out of his artist's block Damian decides to take a risk with a professional Dom.

Will submitting to someone really help to clear his head? Can he fully let go of the weight of his life? And why's he so attracted to the mysterious man named Lukas?

"Don't you know your beautiful mouth was made for better things than swearing?" - Lukas

This read is an erotic one, but I loved that there was a bit of a plotline! I love my smutty reads, but I also like to have a bit of a story line. This book did NOT disappoint in both areas!

Damian's like most people who create things for the world. Getting stuck in the dreaded slump of a creative block! He needs to create a new sound and keep people engaged with him and his band. But how can he create new sounds when he can't even think up one word that sparks a lyrical verse? Having so much talent and abilities but feeling like absolutely nothing is working! Know how that feels.

Lukas is a man who has established a business where clients submit to him. Taking on Damian you can tell things shift a little as they begin to understand one another. Lukas is extremely professional, and I loved reading the first meeting between the two. Boundaries being set within this read and all the intricacies. There's a power in submitting to someone and having enough trust in that person to submit. Does not make one weak.

This book's kinks revolve around BDSM. I loved how there were verbal ques and check ins, along with a safe word. Safe word being one that the sub or the DOM could call out. Safe word stopping the scene immediately and determining if it needs to end or if things just need to be tweaked. Lukas is very much Daddy and states to be called that by Damian. Damian not objecting in the least!

Some of the kinks in this read included spanking, degradation/praise, candle wax play, and more. There is one scene where a play did draw blood, fair warning. We also have the obvious sub and dom moments as well as aftercare being shown. Aftercare's very important and can mean several things to different people and I loved that it was included in the dynamic.

This book does take place in the 70s, drug usage is one of the main things of the time. There are mention of drugs and marijuana being used on the page. Language is present in the book, and I loved Lukas' opinion on that matter. . . I also loved the musical connection between the two leads and how they interpreted and communicated things. There's an age gap between the two and Damian could care less.

This was a great read and I loved it! It's a short novella with all the spice, a bit of a plotline, and feels within the pages. Even if some of the feels include grabbing your partner or charging batteries. . .

Enjoy the single POV read and don't forget to give the author some stars!
