Soul Collector Author Rebecca Rennick

ARC Review

5 out of 5 stars!

"You might think being born with such a rare trait would be cause for revere and adoration. You would be wrong." - Sorrel

Being born with hair of fire and freckles to boot is anything but a blessing. Sorrel's destined to serve a god of Death and the Afterlife until her time is up. Being cursed as a Soul Collector from the moment she took her first breath.

Sorrel's world is full of simple minded people who look upon Soul Collectors as evil beings. Stealing souls and tearing apart families. Only this isn't true but who would ever understand her or wish to be close to her. Even just a friend to talk to would be nice.

On one particular collection, Sorrel finds a soul that doesn't feel right. Causing her entire world to be questioned and flipped upside down! And is that a man's voice she's hearing in her head? Maybe she truly has gone crazy from being alone for so long.

"Mankind's greatest downfall is his superiority complex." - Sorrel

Sorrel goes through a lot with her cursed life. She's only wanting to do her duty as a Soul Collector for a god. The alternative for souls not being collected by her is a horrible fate. Only people have made her kind out to be monsters and evil beings. So this book does contain themes of prejudice.

I loved watching Sorrel's journey through this book. Especially when she's forced to share spaces with a certain man. One who is brainwashed by his society to believe Sorrel is evil. Sometimes you just need to walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Or maybe several.

The banter between the two was incredible and I loved seeing the growth on both sides! Though the author will break your heart because this is meant to be a series. . . Cliffhanger that will have you wanting and needing more!

"The girl who follows the stars and has a pet fox." - Cayde

I loved how Cayde had to take a step back from things and really learn about Sorrel's world. I don't want to give too much away! But Cayde has to deal with being not in control of situations. Which no matter who you are it can be tough not being in control.

I loved the entire cast in this book! I also know how Sorrel feels because I may not have a complete head of red hair, but flecks of it. I am covered in freckles and the teasing I got as a kid made me dislike them. No where near as hateful as Sorrel has it in her adult life! The author did an amazing job building this world and providing you the feels for the ignorance of people.

This book does contain language along with scenes of violence, nothing ridiculously graphic. There is MF action in this book, it is a slow burn and angsty. Again, there is a cliffhanger and I very much will be reading the next book! I love this world and the people Sorrel has met and allowed into her life. I need more!

Enjoy this heartfelt adventure and give the author some stars!
