Murder on Hunter's Eve: The Lamplight Murder Mysteries, Book 3 Author Morgan Stang
Audiobook Review
5 out of 5 stars!
Narrator Shiromi Arserio
First and foremost, this is book three of the series and I find it best to listen to them in order. Especially with this one and how some of the cast from the first two make their appearances. Spoiling things as they compare notes on the respective nights, they spent with the Huntress and her team.

Isabeau doesn't have to travel far for her next big case. Here she is trying to enjoy a vacation from monster hunting and solving human mysteries and death finds her. Well, it wasn't like Isabeau could actually relax even if she wanted to. How does one do such a thing?
Hunter's Eve is supposed to be a week and nights full of celebration and spooks. But for our beloved party they get all the tricks and no treats. A high-profile murder has been placed at the top of their list along with another murder that was very public as well, just not as important. To top things off a werewolf has decided to join in on the festivities but leaving destruction in its wake. Ah doesn't one say there's nothing better than being home?
*Quote about Evie following Isabeau home one day and never leaving. Huntress being stuck with the cop.*
What I really loved about this installment the most is the growth in Evie and Isabeau's partnership. How we come full circle and see Evie utilizing the lessons Izzy has taught her throughout the series. I was shocked when the narrator switched from Izzy to Evie! Dual POVs with this book! Loved getting to also understand how much Evie pushes and fights for modern advancements within her own detective department. Being a trail blazer!
We get a blast from Isabeau's past with Ian another Hunter of the Endless Hunt. (Sorry if I misspelled his name!) I was laughing when him and Evie met. Evie begging to know stories of little Izzy as a child. Ian gladly spills the tea. Enjoyed seeing another Hunter and how he worked. Fleshing out more of Izzy's past and how she is the way she is. I really loved his character and the way Evie had to bluntly point things out to him toward the end!
Victorian Era history is woven into fantasy and steampunk. Loved hearing about the photographer and how an image took several minutes to take before moving onto the next. Yes, shocking! Look them up in real life history! The first cameras required metal plates, several minutes to capture the image, and then you had to develop them before even knowing how they turned out.
There's the dark side of real-life Victorian history in this read. Factories, working conditions, working hours, extortion of the lower class, and child labor. Mild language in this read, some violence, bloodshed, and deaths. Through Evie's eyes we get to understand more about different monsters and how they hunt. Brutal and intense monster fight with one creepy beast. There's a scene of two people caught whilst having fun, no crazy x rated details. Some slight romance within this read but it isn't the main focus.
I loved the take on werewolves in this read and the nature behind them! Also, how well written an immortal being was and the sad reality of it. Penny and Holmes are still my favorite characters! Penny does keep you on your toes and wondering if she is something more than just your average living doll girl. She even impressed a gangster and that's all I'll say because of spoilers! Holmes is such a treasure and also keeps you on your toes in a comical way. He's also turning over a new leaf!
This book was coming to a head, and I was scared this would be it! No more of my favorite cast, cool author, and amazing narrator! But no there is more to come! I cannot wait and maybe one of the books will take place on a flying airship!
Enjoy the read and don't forget to give the author some stars!
