Artificial Author/Artist Maria Llovet

Comic/Graphic Novel Review

Complete Edition of Issues #1-4

4 out of 5 stars!

"Why can't guys be like they are in the novels?" - Clara

Coming off a breakup and ignoring the "let's talk messages", Clara wants a passionate romance. One that rivals the fictional novels she reads! Deciding to test out the new and advanced AI dating service she creates the man who stars in her spicy books! Getting encouragement from her friends she subscribes and soon forgets all about her ex.

Technology is great until it malfunctions. . . A glitch causes things to go south as Clara starts to realize there's a reason one should separate fiction from reality. But can she stop her possessive, stalker Android in time?!

I was scrolling through NetGalley when I saw Maria had a new comic up for review! I had to read it! I love the simplicity and beauty of the artwork and how so much is conveyed through addition of lines and colors! And the psychology Maria presents in her works, this one hitting closer because of the rise of AI and the advancement of technology.

Let's be honest with ourselves. . .all of us at one time or another have wished for a fictional character to be real. Doesn't even have to be an intimate want. But there's a reason why these characters remain and thrive in the fictional world the author's created. Clara hasn't gotten to that level of understanding yet. . . With the sci-fi setting of this world why should she care? She can literally design a man to her standards and poof he exists and is at her doorstep!

Clara faces some of the complications with technology, passwords, and customer service we deal with currently. Sometimes getting everything you wanted, exactly how you wanted it isn't worth it in the end. . . This read does contain tense moments and non-sexy possessive behavior. Attempted SA that is stopped, violence and fighting, some blood, making important decisions whilst tipsy, and moments of genuine fear.

It's fake but there's romance and passion. MF action, nudity, and sexual content. When Clara got to design her Android, she got to "design" her Android. I really enjoyed the usage of flowers in this read and how even a small, normal flower is unique and real. Sometimes the simplest of things hold greater value than the big showy roses.

"People come here just for the roses. But I like the bare vines, like they are now. There's beauty everywhere." - Gardener

This was a very quick, fast paced comic book even with all four issues combined into one. We do get a conclusion but there's more for Clara and another character. Even if it's just your imagination filling in the rest. I cannot wait to see what Maria comes up with next! Her artwork draws me in along with how a single line, question, or statement causes foreshadowing for the read! Setting the tone and giving you the answer along the way through imagery and plot twists.

There's a reason why I would avoid AI operated Androids like the plague! Played too many games and read so many things. . . Enjoy the read and don't forget to give the author some stars!

Thank you, NetGalley and Image Comics!
