3.5 out of 5 stars!

"The reason I'd been so keen to take on this job hadn't just been to tell her story, it had been to get to know a woman who fascinated me. Who attracted me." - Zoe

Zoe gets the opportunity of a lifetime! Her small true-crime podcast platform is about to explode with this new person she will be interviewing! Karma Jones, the famed girl now woman who escaped a cult! Getting to ask her questions about her life and being the one to get Karma's full, uncensored story one last time.

But amidst getting to travel with Karma is a bond the two form over The Medusa Network. The Network taking out those guilty individuals whom the justice system couldn't apprehend. . . Only when a victim that Zoe knew and looked up to fondly is killed, she begins questioning everything with the Network. Namely they made a mistake! Right?! And as she gets closer to Karma red flags begin popping up. Surely those are wrong as well, did she bite off more than she could chew? Will the truth cause her to run?

"They would know that Medusa only comes for the guilty."

This read is for all the people out there who have suffered severe physical or emotional trauma under the hands of someone they loved or trusted. And our justice system feels like a joke with these cases. Almost as if someone of our "great" justice system needs to be present and catching the cruel person in the act before they will be like "oh, yeah! So and so is really guilty." Because people seem to forget how well the guilty party can manipulate and groom not only their target but the surrounding people. . .

Zoe was an interesting character, not top of my list from Thomas but I did appreciate her. I totally understood why she overlooked the red flags that were popping up and ignoring her gut instincts when it came to Karma. Zoe having admired and obsessed over Karma for years and then being able to travel with the famous woman! Dream come true and she will definitely have career security after this podcast series!

I did love the storyline between Zoe, Karma, and the podcast. Getting to see into the nitty gritty of cult life and trying to survive the madness. We have three POVs and one of them is the cult leaders POV. It's very intense and psychologically fascinating at the same time. But the plotline I really enjoyed was The Medusa Network. Getting to understand them through the prologue and then the target number chapters! Also appreciating how the author showed both sides of the story. One from the POV of the victims of the guilty party and that of the POV of those who were innocent loved ones having no idea why the victim was deemed guilty.

The author also points out a major flaw us onlookers do to the guilty party's loved ones. We treat them just as bad if not worse than the guilty person. When in truth they were just as expertly manipulated as everyone else surrounding the person. The author also writes in justice for men who are SA'd just because they were born male. I really loved that chapter, and it showed an unbiased opinion of things. Because yes, many forget that women are not the only victims of SA.

This read touches on some very dark, real-life things. Because there's always some truth in fiction, just when written in fiction it's easier to separate yourself from the narrative. The victims go into detail of their trauma and the person they still have nightmares about. With this read there is justice for them, maybe not in the way that is legal but again our justice system is sorely lacking in this area. There are detailed deaths, some gore, bloodshed, and violence. Unsettling insights into a cult and the leader's doctrine and mindset. Just be cautious going into the read.

I'm a little biased when it comes to the romance part of the read, having known the author for a while. Now I will say there is a fine line between admiration and love in some cases. Zoe developing such feelings and when placed in a room with Karma she fully understands. They gravitate toward one another and there is an FF kiss but nothing more within the read. I will say I liked the romance, but it also didn't fully slot in.

There's a conclusion to the read and some of the twists I figured out while some I didn't. A couple of the ending sequences I didn't fully like and there was some rush to it. I did really love the HEA epilogue.

Do enjoy the read where justice is served and a podcaster may be rethinking her outlook on things! Don't forget to give the author some stars!
