Longing for the Minotaur: Indecent Monsters Author Lyonne Riley
Book Review
5 out of 5 stars!
"But the thing that’s always been most painful? How gorgeous my jackass stepbrother is. Everyone knows it, including him, which is both part of the reason he’s such an asshole, and part of the reason I still let him get away with what he does. He just looks so pretty doing it." - Val
Valentina has been fighting and denying her longtime crush on her stepbrother. If only her father hadn't fallen in love with Banon's minotaur mom! Not really, she's very happy for her dad and the love he shares with Marissa. It just makes things awkward for her, even after the events of HS her heart still wants Banon.
Distance and ignoring one another hasn't helped to solve anything between the two. The caps about to blow when the two have to come home for the Holidays and be in close proximity to one another. If Val speaks her truth to Banon will this blowup horribly and ruin their combined family? Could Banon even possibly see her in that way or is this some taboo fantasy. . .?! Holidays are already stressful enough!
"Something normal. Something where I didn’t have to always hide, always try to pretend like I don’t crave her. . ." - Banon
I enjoy a Lyonne Riley book whether full length or a fun novella like this one. I think I have a major soft spot in my heart for Minotaurs. I will not be taking any questions on this matter because I don't even fully know the answers as to why. I love how Riley writes her characters and how she's tackling taboo romances with this novella series! The books don't have to be read in order!
The struggle between the two was very fun to watch. Dual POVs showing just how much they were battling internal thoughts and wants. Both not understanding why there's always been this major divide between them. Val, believing he didn't even see her as a friend let alone a younger sibling. Banon not realizing how much damage he caused Val in HS by setting the tone of how people should treat her. Banon was always the football star that shone and was unreachable, widening the divide between them more.
Yet through everything the two's crush on one another only grew. I respected Banon with some of the choices he made regarding their age difference. He's only four or five years older but at a certain point he was seen as an adult while Val was still a minor. NOTHING happens until after they are both legally, consenting adults!
This is a cozy and steamy romance that stays on the lighter side. Yes, there are some issues regarding their relationship and how others would view them. Admired that not everyone accepted or just instantly loved their love. Made it feel more organic. Mention of HS bullying and having four years of misery. Language is spread throughout and do read through the short CWs list. We do get spicy minotaur loving that happens fairly fast since the two already know each other.
The couple do get an HEA! I like that this read takes place during a holiday (Thanksgiving) that I feel gets skipped over because of merchants pushing sales. I really loved Momma Marissa's character and her helping hand throughout the read! I want to join one of her Thanksgiving dinners, but she may kick me outside when I eat my not-too-sweet pumpkin pie. . .
Enjoy the quick, cozy, monster romance as you take a small break from the festivities! Don't forget to give the author some stars!
