Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun: IruMafia Edition 1 Mangaka Hiroja

Manga Review

5 out of 5 stars!

Original Series by Osamu Nishi

". . .Y'know, I think that anybody can be a good person. All you need is a full belly to start." - Iruma

Iruma's too precious and sweet for this world! Somehow, he's managed to survive in the slums and still hold onto his goodness. When he helps a strange old man by tending to his wounds and giving him the last of his bread reserves, Iruma didn't expect anything to come of it. But Don Sullivan, the leader of the Babel Mafia, decided Iruma was to be his grandson!

At age five Iruma is caught up in the whirlwind that is Don Sullivan and the rest of the Babel Mafia. He even gains a gofer named Opera! How did this happen?! Will Iruma be able to hang onto his gentle nature or will it be swallowed up? And did someone say he was to be the next in line for head of the family at age fourteen?!!

First of all! I absolutely ADORE "Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun"! It's a comfort series I could watch on replay, and I could read the manga forever! So, when I saw this, I just had to snatch it up! I love that Nishi still had her hands on this project and approved of Hiroja's work. Nishi even illustrated Iruma and company with suits on! I definitely agree with Hiroja and his love for the cast in suits!

I will say I was a little nervous that things would play out similar to the original series but there's a lot of differences in this series. But my man Kalego still has that same view toward Iruma and I love it! I'm a big fan of Opera and Kalego so seeing the two in suits and more of the main characters made my heart burst! I was laughing a lot with all the chaotic antics going on and the Easter eggs that were presented.

"It takes more than a good heart to be a good boss." - Kalego

Kalego's Iruma's private tutor and though he's harsh, he still conveys things to Iruma. Who gets them but not in the way Kalego was expecting. One of the outcomes to Kalego's lesson had me laughing and excited to see a familiar design surrounding Kalego. Watching Opera and Kalego snipe at each other like a cat and a dog was fantastic. Also, when Kalego was introduced the panel designs were so hot. I may have kept back tracking to really look at my man. . .

There's no language because it is "bleeped" out. We do have violence and bloodshed but nothing too crazy or gory. Opera and Kalego are intense forces to reckon with. They will never say it out loud but the two together in a fight are perfect. The competition and quips at one another only help to increase their danger.

I was utterly dying seeing all the characters in suits! It took me longer to read because I just had to keep flipping back to admire the artwork. Hiroja did a phenomenal job at bringing the old and known characters' back to life with his twists. This spin-off is amazing, and I want to continue reading! The cliffhanger has me hooked even more because Alice Asmodeus is about to enter the chat!!

Enjoy the new take on Iruma-kun and company as all of them don amazing suits and take on the underworld in odd ways that has Kalego needing to remain in bed to process things. Don't forget to give the author some stars!
