The Boyfriend Author Freida McFadden

Audiobook Review

5 out of 5 stars!

Narrated by Victoria Connolly and Robb Moreira

Sydney just wants what any single woman over the age of thirty wants, a man who is "the one". But thus far the dating scene is awful and the last date she went on was beyond horrible. She may have even met the perfect man but was unable to even get his name! At this rate she may just be dying alone!

Luckily the universe has Sydney's back and potential Mr. Perfect comes back into her life. And guess what!? He officially becomes her boyfriend in no time at all. But can someone be a little too perfect? Should she remove the rose-colored glasses even though this man is a doctor!? Especially when there's a murderer lose and has struck very close to where Sydney lives? They say it's a man who dates women and then kills them. Should she have anything to worry about?

Unfortunately, when I listen to audiobooks, I'm in the middle of cleaning or doing something that I like having background noise. So, I don't have any cool quotes to post within this review. I very much enjoyed both narrators and how they fleshed out the different POVs! Dual POVs with separate timelines, one being in the past and one in the present.

I enjoyed seeing the present while also understanding pieces of the past and how Tom became who he is. How things were twisted and weaved having you believing you figured it out until the real plot twists started going down. I was completely stunned by the big reveal and was grinning like an idiot! I love Freida's works and how she gives you a false sense of security luring you into an answer that isn't quite right.

Sydney was an interesting character, and I liked listening to Victoria bring her to life. Sydney has a unique bleeding disorder called Von Willebrand disease, basically a simple little cut is a full-blown horror show for Sydney. There were a couple scenes involving her having accidents or nosebleeds with a lot of blood, just fair warning.

I loved the multiple arcs that were going on at once and how each of them ended. One having closure in the epilogue that had me cheering. Just the twists in this book were great and I truly thought I had things figured out!

Our MMC dealt with a drunken and physically abusive father. Domestic violence and having to deal with his mom covering for his father while he was a teen. There's language throughout the book and blood. Emotionally tense and high stakes moments. Violent murders, grief, trying to move on, manipulation, some gaslighting moments, and more.

We do have romance with this read since Sydney finally gets a break in the dating game! The intimate scenes are closed door but there's implications as to what happened and that it was very, very good. Sydney even has to come up with a new word for what transpired!

We do get closure for the book but there's room for your imagination to start going. I love Freida's works and can't get enough of them honestly. Psychological thrillers are honestly a favorite genre of mine and understanding the mind and how twisted some can be. I'm just awful about not reviewing after I listen to an audiobook! I get so excited about ending a read and being able to move onto the next! Which I did and blasted through "Never Lie" it was a five out of five as well!

Enjoy the puzzle pieces clicking into place as the story unfolds however you may read this book! Don't forget to give the author some stars!
