Never Lie Author Freida McFadden

Audiobook Review

5 out of 5 stars!

Narrated by Leslie Howard

A famous doctor and pop psychologist author disappears everyone believing the boyfriend did it. It was never proven though and the mystery as to what happened to the great Doctor Adrienne Hale remains unsolved. . .

A newly married couple viewing the very house that belonged to the late doctor only neither of them realized it was her house! This showing will last longer than most as a snowstorm moves in and traps them inside until it's safe to drive. Tricia has always been a curious creature and can't help but snoop, just a little. Quickly discovering the good doctor had recorded every one of her sessions with patients! What would it hurt to listen to a few of them? Maybe she can solve the mystery!

I think I'm just going to have to come to terms with the fact that when I listen to audiobooks, I unfortunately won't have any cool quotes to throw into my reviews. I'm typically doing something physically productive or artwork as I listen to books. I love thrillers and psychological ones are my favorite. I enjoy trying to figure out who did it and seeing if any of my theories pan out or if the plot twists will get me!

Tricia and Ethan are still in that honeymoon phase of their marriage. Tricia's friends thought the fast paced, whirlwind romance had a lot of red flags but when you find the one you just know. She's still trying to understand her new husband and his quirks. She wants to find a house but something about this one doesn't fill her with a sense of home. This house, though quite grand and impressive, holds something dark and foreboding.

When Tricia found the cassettes and started listening to them, I'd honestly do the same thing, I just wanted her to play each one back-to-back. No interruptions! The puzzle pieces falling into place and leading up to what happened to Adrienne! But there were some present pressing matters that needed to be attended to. I loved the two timelines with dual POVs. One of them being through Adrienne's eyes and how her psychiatrist brain worked! Breaking down things and how it affects our choices even bringing up past studies. Loved how with all her understandings of the human mind and disorders she still made mistakes.

This book does contain language, violence, illegal acts, deaths, and more. Adrienne is a doctor who deals with patients who are psychiatric and one of them has narcissistic personality disorder. Some of the tapes may be a little triggering for some. There is of course romance between the newlywed couple, but the more intimate scenes are closed door.

The twists! Freida's books give you trust issues, in a good way! Luring you into believing your theory is correct and then flipping the script on you. I very much enjoyed the plot twists and how one of the cassettes blew me away. The ending of this book was so good, and I appreciate endings that have your imagination firing and wondering with what ifs. I cannot wait to listen to more of her books or relisten to them so I can write reviews! The thriller aspect is there and the final chapters leading up to the end make you stop everything and hold your breath.

Enjoy the newlywed couple stuck in a house where something sinister went down and an unsolved mystery that may just get solved. Don't forget to give the author some stars!
