The Unexpected Gift: Dying Gods Author Elisha Kemp
Book Review
5 out of 5 stars!
First and foremost! This very, short story can be read as a standalone but there are some minor spoilers. Personally, I think reading "Minas" first is best before reading this, since you will understand the world and lore around the characters more. However you choose, happy reading!
"I want this barbarian's wine, sweet and honeyed and forbidden." - Daidalos
Minas Zakros has decided to make a move in Zakros' best interest. Little does she know that her power move won't go fully the way she intended. Since Daidalos only prefers the company of men. Whether at sea or on land. . . How can he pledge himself to a woman even if his Minas ordered it?!
I was excited to get this little tease into Lykos and Daidalos' newly forming relationship! Having read Minas and see the ending I felt like something was missing in regard to Lykos. In walks in a towering man that has Lykos and I grinning ear to ear stating "Bingo"!
This novella is forty-four pages! It picks up a little before the ending celebration in "Minas" and showcases some developments after. I loved reading this and watching Lykos work his wonders. Chuckled at the banter between Brit and Lykos as Daidalos watched on utterly confused and bewildered. Elisha writes some addicting characters so I'm more than happy to read anything about them even if it's quick!
Single POV through Daidalos' eyes! I read so fast I don't think there was any language, maybe mild if any. There is MM action and very heated moments. Getting to understand just a small fragment of Daidalos' backstory and him having watched his fathers compete for ranking with his mother. Causing him to be thrown by the dynamics of Lykos and Brit in regard to the Minas Crete. Feelings of being nothing more than a bargaining chip. On land women rule but, on the sea, Daidalos is free.
I cannot wait for the next installment in the Dying Gods series! I hope to see more of Lykos and Daidalos because ugh! That cliffhanger and how things abruptly ended with hints of more to come between them. . . I want to see how the polyamorous love story will progress with this new edition!
Enjoy the quick novella to keep you sated a little until the next installment! Don't forget to give the author some stars!
