Love is Trash in Hallow's Cove Author Emily Antoinette

ARC Review (yes, I'm a little late)

5 out of 5 stars!

"Monsters seemed like the answer to my relationship troubles, but I’m starting to think that the problem is me. Maybe I’m not mate material." - Hayley

Like most people who have been in relationships and many dates it feels like there's a dark cloud hanging over you. A string of bad relationships that ended in a dumpster fire to say the least or fuel for a fictional novel. Hayley's at her wits end and just wants to find the one! Is that too much to ask?! Maybe she will find her perfect partner with a monster instead of a human.

Only as she gets more acquainted with Hallow's Cove and the single status residences she discovers that even in this small town it's still hard to find her match. Giving up is the solution but she isn't ready to scrap her dreams of happily ever after and babies! What she doesn't know is that her mate has already found her and is completely smitten. . . Will Jake ever get up the courage and silence the self-doubts to approach Hayley? Is he too weird for the perfect human?

"Yes. Perfect. Mine. The all-encompassing thought startles me back into my hybrid form, and I tumble off the edge of the dumpster onto the hard pavement below. . ." - Jake

The next installment in Hallow's Cove novellas! The books can be read as standalones but there will be cameos of previous characters. I love Emily's writing and the quirkiness of her romances. This one is very quirky, weird, fun, and steamy. I do enjoy wolf shifters but I'm over the moon when I find shifter romance books with a different kind of shifter. Jake is a racoon shifter but ssssh Hayley doesn't know that!

"“Don’t worry, I don’t bite,” he says, sounding like he’s seriously worried I’m scared of him and that’s why I shut my eyes. “Oh, I’m not worried! You can bite me if you want,” I blurt." - Jake and Hayley

I could relate to Hayley like the majority of us. When finding your partner, I have recommended to people to give up/stop looking. Of course, the typical eyeroll and "is that it?!" follows shortly after from the other person. But it's the truth. Even if we don't mean to, we come off a bit desperate when we are on the prowl for a mate. Looking in ALL the wrong places then being upset with the outcomes. I gave up much like Hayley did and the Universe was just like, "Oooo yeah? Hold my drink." *plops future husband into life*

Jake's a big, sweet, weird, and a bit eccentric man. I just wanted to give him a big hug several times! Jake having to overcome himself and the obstacles he was throwing up along with some misfires and no communication moments. I loved the interactions and how the two slowly started getting to know one another. How they matched each other's weirdness and oddities. The discussion about aliens had me! (I agree with Hayley's view on the matter.) I also laughed so much with one of their particularly unique and unorthodox dates!

Do read through the CWs. There's language in this novella, mentions of past horrible dates or partners, feelings of self-doubt, insecurities, and helplessness. Dumpster diving because one man's trash is Jake's treasure or if there's food than that belongs to Beans! There's a specific kink that's relevant to the storyline and I understand why but it isn't really for me. Personally, I don't understand the interest in such things in real life.

“You’re right. I’m sorry, Hayley. I’m not normally this weird. Well, no, I am, but not in a nervous way. I just, uh, I really don’t want to screw this up.” - Jake

This is a slow burn, but I loved it! Hayley getting to have unorthodox romantic moments to help satisfy her hopeless romantic side. Getting to know one another and just how Jake didn't want to announce she was his mate. His reasoning behind why he didn't I loved and respected. Dual POVs. I loved the unique dates and tender moments between the two and how Beans was also involved! (Not in a sexual way because Beans is an innocent, sweet boi who doesn't have interest in Hayley like that! He just wants belly rubs and to cuddle!) We do get steamy scenes between Jake and Hayley!

I loved this fun romance novella and cannot wait for the next installment! I was also so happy that someone finally pointed it out! Animal control and shifters. I don't want to spoil anything, but I mean if you have read any shifter book, you have to wonder what that relationship is like. Probably fear on both sides for different reasons. We do get an HEA with the main couple who both want children!

Enjoy this installment with an eccentric but very loveable racoon shifter and the curvy human who doesn't know her lucky underwear are about to pay off big time. Don't forget to give the author some stars! (Now can I cuddle with Beans!!?)
